Artist, Inez Weissman (1924–2014) grew up in New York City and lived in New York State before moving to Portland, Oregon in 1987. As a young woman in New York, she lived with her cousin, the sculptor Louise Nevelson, and became immersed in the vibrant world of American modern artists.

Growing up during the Great Depression shaped her lifelong commitment to social justice. She was widely known as a political activist and worked across many movements, including labor organizing, civil rights, and feminism.

Inez was an accomplished painter, who studied at the Woodstock School of Art and exhibited her work in galleries in both New York and Oregon. Her paintings are recognized for their boldness, emotional intensity, and strong use of color.
